TOUR OVERVIEW

Step into the rhythm of Mongolia’s timeless nomadic culture. Over six days, you’ll live alongside herder families, ride horses across the wide-open steppe, and sleep in traditional gers beneath clear night skies. This authentic cultural experience is ideal for travelers seeking meaningful connection, slow travel, and immersion in Mongolia’s natural beauty.

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN ULAANBAATAR

  • Airport or train station pickup
  • City orientation and welcome briefing
  • Visit the Gandan Monastery and the National Museum of Mongolia
  • Traditional Mongolian welcome dinner with cultural intro

DAY 2 – JOURNEY TO THE STEPPE & NOMADIC FAMILY STAY

  • Drive to central Mongolia (4–5 hours)
  • Arrive at a traditional nomadic herder camp
  • Introduction to daily herder life: milking, animal care, and cooking
  • Settle into your guest ger (yurt) with a local family
  • Participate in a hands-on Mongolian cooking class

DAY 3 – HORSEBACK RIDING & EXPLORATION OF THE STEPPE

  • Safety briefing and intro to Mongolian horse culture
  • Half-day guided horseback trek across rolling hills and open plains
  • Picnic lunch in the wilderness
  • Learn to assemble and disassemble a ger
  • Evening cultural exchange and stories with herders

DAY 4 – NOMADIC GAMES & STARRY SKIES

  • Join your hosts for nomadic games (ankle bone games, archery, or mini wrestling)
  • Learn felt-making or traditional knot tying
  • Optional: Help herd livestock or gather dung for firewood
  • Free time to wander, journal, or photograph the vast steppe
  • Bonfire night with traditional throat singing (Khoomei) and storytelling

DAY 5 – VISIT LOCAL TEMPLE & RETURN TO ULAANBAATAR

  • Breakfast and farewell with host family
  • Optional stop at a local monastery or sacred ovoo (shrine) en route
  • Scenic return drive to Ulaanbaatar with roadside picnic
  • Final group dinner at a contemporary Mongolian fusion restaurant
  • Optional cultural show (music, dance, contortion performance)
